A66 in Cumbria closed between Bowes and Brough after crash

A major road in Cumbria is partially closed this evening following a crash.

Emergency services have been called to the A66 westbound and the carriageway is expected to be close for some time.

The incident happened between the A67 (Bowes) and the A685 (Brough).

National Highways – formerly Highways England – said Cumbria Police are among the emergency services in attendance.

Diversions have been put in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The A66 in Cumbria is currently closed westbound between the A67 (Bowes) and the A685 (Brough) due to a collision.

“Emergency services including Cumbria Police are in attendance. National Highways has resources deployed to assist.

“Traffic is being diverted locally by police. Road users are advised to expect disruption and to allow extra journey time.”
