Cumbria is home to the Lake District, with draws in millions of people each year for its picturesque villages, landscapes and nature
Dad and keen hiker has found the perfect hike in the Lake District that delivers amazing views with minimal effort, meaning you can even take toddlers with you. The Lake District is England’s largest National Park in Cumbria and is full of picturesque villages, landscapes and nature.
It’s one of the most popular destinations for a staycation in the UK due to its tranquillity and beauty. A dad who posts on TikTok under the username Joshaky, travelled to one part of the Lake District, just above Howtown, on the edge of Ullswater, and found the perfect hike the entire family can take part in.
Hallin Fell is a short circular walk that sees you ascend quickly to reach a summit that has unbelievable views of the mountains and valleys. The walk is 1.2 miles long and is described as being “easy”.
There are some steep grass slopes which may become slippery at times, but other than that, it is suitable for all walking abilities, including dogs and children.
Joshaky said: “Do you want a family-friendly hike in the Lake District with panoramic views and a summit that takes less than one kilometre to reach? Well today we completed Hallin Fell and you need to save this one for later.
“We parked at St. Peter’s Church where there’s plenty of spaces when we arrived. Straight from the car park the path is right there and leads you straight uphill.
“It’s short, but you gain height quickly and the path was so easy to follow. There’s a massive stone cairn that marks the summit and the views over Ullswater are unreal.
“You can see for miles across the lake and into the valleys beyond, which all of the kids absolutely loved. It took us just under 30 minutes to get to the top.
“So if you want a walk that delivers big views for small effort, Hallin Fell near Ullswater is the one.”
Joshaky isn’t the only person who enjoyed the hike, the area has an almost perfect 4.8 star review on TripAdvisor.
One person who lives in Sydney, Australia said: “After touring Martindale we walked to the top of Hallin Fell which took around 30 minutes. The views from the top were great and there is an old stone cairn there. Well worth the walk if you are in this area.”
Another person said: “A fab climb up with the dog. The view is amazing. Take water and a backpack to make life easier. Stunning place to overlook Ullswater.”
A third said: “Steep but short climb that is totally worth it, as the views from the top are just stunning. You can leave your car in a small car park opposite the Church. You’ll meet many sheep on the way up.
“One of our favourite short hikes in the Lakes. A must-visit if you are in Pooley Bridge or around Ullswater. Takes a max of 1 hour to go up and back.”
