Boy seriously injured after car crashes into horse pulling a cart

A teenager has been left hospitalised with serious injuries after a car crashed into a horse pulling a two-wheeled cart in Cumbria.

Emergency services were called to the A6 between Penrith and Milestone House at 10.48pm on Thursday (June 30). Cumbria Police said the collision involved a Black Mercedes Vito and a horse pulling a sulky.

A 16-year-old male who was on the sulky, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries. They are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two further people who were on the sulky suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.

A force spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision to contact PS 1962 Vickers or PC 2743 Bruce by calling 101 or emailing SCIU@cumbria.police.uk. Please include the reference, log number 246 of the 30th June with any information reported.”
