Cumbria’s cases rise across Carlisle, Eden, Allerdale, and South Lakes

Cumbria has seen a further 249 cases of coronavirus confirmed through Public Health England.

PHE released the latest testing data this evening (December 24) in which it confirmed a large spike in the Carlisle borough where 89 new cases were recorded.

60 cases were confirmed in Eden with a further 42 in Allerdale.

South Lakeland saw 34 new cases in the latest 24 hour testing window.

Cases remain low in Barrow and Eden, with increases of 14 and 10 respectively.

Cumbria has now seen 12,509 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The data below includes the total number of cases and overall infection rate for each area since the pandemic began. Many of these cases will no longer be active.

  • Allerdale: 1,774 (+42), 1,814.6 per 100,000
  • Barrow-in-Furness: 2,224 (+14), 3,317 per 100,000
  • Carlisle: 3,274 (+89), 3,012.6 per 100,000
  • Copeland: 1,273 (+10), 1,867 per 100,000
  • Eden: 1,319 (+60) 2,476.9 per 100,000
  • South Lakeland: 2,645 (+34) 2,516.9 per 100,000

The Government said a further 574 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 69,625.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 86,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government said that, as of 9am on Thursday, there had been a further 39,036 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 2,188,587.
