A driver has been arrested for failing a roadside drug test whilst travelling with two children in the car.
On Sunday afternoon (April 20), Cumbria Police stopped a car in Cleator Moor after they were spotted not wearing a seatbelt. The driver had two children in the car and failed a roadside drugs wipe.
This was for cannabis and they were subsequently arrested. He was then released under investigation to allow time for blood test results.
On the same day, officers stopped a car in Aspatria after a report the driver was suspected of drinking before getting behind the wheel. He also failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.
The driver was then charged and is due in court next month.
These arrests are part of Cumbria Police’s Operation Spotlight. This is aimed at targeting the Fatal Four – speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
