Driver ‘ejected from car’ after crashing into tree at 50mph near Brampton

A driver has been described as ‘fortunate’ after crashing into a tree at 50mph near Brampton.

Police were called to the incident, involving one vehicle, on A6071 at around 6.37am on Friday (October 15).

The driver of the Peugeot 107 was not wearing his seatbelt and was ‘ejected’ from the car.

He suffered facial injuries and he was taken to CIC.

He also allegedly provided a positive drugs wipe so was arrested for that offence.

The vehicle was seized for no insurance.

The road was closed in both directions while recovery took place.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “We were called at 6.37.

“Report of a single vehicle RTC involving a Peugeot 107.

“Driver has suffered facial injuries and he was taken to CIC (Not believed at this time to be life-threatening or altering injuries).

“Recovery is at the scene and the road should re-open shortly.”

Sharing a photo from the scene on Twitter, Cumbria Road Police wrote: “One very fortunate driver this morning on A6071, Brampton.

“Ejected from the vehicle after crashing into a tree at 50mph (not wearing his seatbelt).

“He provided a positive drugs wipe so was arrested for that offence. The vehicle was seized for no insurance.”
