Drypoint Printmaking Workshop

5 September @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

£85

Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking technique, which involves manually scratching an image into a plate using a sharp pointed tool, creating its distinctive lines with a slightly raised velvety, known as the burr, which get inked and the plate can be printed from again and again! Unlike traditional etching where grooves are made through the use of acids, drypoint printmaking requires less specialist equipment and does not need any acids or chemicals. The process is great for creating playful illustrations or expressive sketches; and will appeal to those who want to take their drawings into print as well as those who just want to try something different! Suitable for beginners. No prior experience necessary.

About your tutor:

Based in Gateshead, Pui Lee is a British-born Hakka Chinese artist and arts educator, working throughout the North of England. Trained in a multitude of disciplines, her artistic practice is wide-ranging and she works using an interdisciplinary approach across both traditional and contemporary 2D and 3D artforms. Over the years, Pui Lee has exhibited and sold work both nationally and internationally. Artist Pui Lee is an experienced printmaker and has been commissioned to teach creative workshops for many high-profile and smaller independent arts, cultural and heritage organisations throughout the UK.

“I love to draw and I see printmaking as an extension of my drawing practice – I believe drawing is essential for any artist! Originally trained as an etcher for many years, my printmaking practice has since diversified to include other processes such as drypoint, woodcut, linocut, monoprint and screen-printing. I love working directly with materials and I enjoy the physicality of the printmaking process to create striking print images for others to enjoy. At my workshops, I aim to inspire and ’empower others through creativity’ so that everyone can achieve their goals.”
