Kendal May Fest 2024

25 May @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Kendal May Fest will be led the Town Crier and Dickie Doodle, Mayor of Doodleshire (for those who don’t know, Doodleshire is located in the East part of Kendal), on May 25th this year, bringing music, dance, mime and theatre to the streets.

Green People, singing, dancing and storytelling welcome in the summer. Characters include St George, Dickie Doodle, and Robin Hood, as well as a host of sailors, mountaineers, cyclists, and many more.

Starting at 10am, the Green Procession will walk, dance, march, run, and bike through the streets of Kendal from the Parish Church in Kirkland up to the Market Place and Stramongate, telling stories as they go. They will be accompanied by anyone who would like to join in. Buggies and prams are especially welcome – but bring a whistle or drum, cymbals, rattles or anything that makes a noise.

The band led by Carolyn Francis, will accompany the singers along the route. Carolyn will be joined by international musicians, Neil Luck and Adam de la Cour, as well as by Benedict Taylor who is originally from Kendal.

All of KCT’s productions involve a diverse cast of people with a wide range of skills and talents. Inclusion is at the heart of this company and everyone is welcome. The company never auditions, and builds its casts around the interested members. KCT is particularly active in working with people with diverse needs and abilities. May Fest will be accompanied by BSL interpreters.

May Fest invites everyone to participate, either by attending the four rehearsals which start on Sunday April 27th in Kendal Parish Hall or by joining the procession on the day.

Free ivy wreaths and green face paint will be given to everyone who turns up. We would love to see you all there.
