Stealing Thunder Storytelling Festival 2025

Fairytales for grown-ups, myths for kids, Scandi midsummer celebrations, wild encounters, late night DJ sessions, tales told around the fire, yoga by the babbling beck, magic shows, storywalks through the woods, music, hands-on workshops and great food and drink.

Enter a world of playfulness, epic stories and wild enchantment at Stealing Thunder Storytelling Festival, nestled in a gorgeous green valley near Lake Windermere.

Come for a wild weekend of midsummer storytelling, jam-packed with incredible performers, shows and magic for ALL ages. Join for the day or camp for the weekend for the full festival experience!

The dazzling line up of world-class storytellers includes: Sarah Liisa Wilkinson, Mikael Öberg, Debs Newbold, Ben Haggarty, Steph Brittain, Jesper la Cour, Troles Kirk Ejsing, Tim Ralphs, TUUP, Nick Hennessey, Kersti Ståbi, Dominic Kelly and exuberant punked-pop and global epic ensemble Pandvani108.

Programmed shows will include: The Game of Candles where storytellers call in the sinister and the strange with a night of haunting tales from around the world; wild stories and music from the Finnish forest; and a physical and downright comedic re-telling of the legend of Beowulf.

The main programme is aimed at adult audiences, but Stealing Thunder is a family friendly festival. The myths for kids programme is packed full of superb family friendly storytelling, and you’ll find plenty of other activities to keep everyone entertained – from toddlers to teens.

Expect workshops in storytelling, singing, drumming, circus skills and mask making.

Festival includes camping, fab food stalls, great coffee and an affordable bar!

Find us 20mins off the M6, nestled between the market town of Kendal and Bowness-on Windermere. The perfect place for escaping into nature, exploring the Lake District and even some wild swimming.
