Lake District Monopoly game is flying off the shelves

THE LAKE District will be given its very own official version of Monopoly which is heading straight for the Christmas No 1.

The edition will arrive in shops this summer during lockdown.

Winning Moves UK, who produced the official game, said: “It’s all the rage. The game brings the Lakes to the world at a time when the world can’t visit there. Sales both locally and overseas have been phenomenal.”

The Westmorland Gazette:

Graham Barnes, PR Director at 6 Star PR said: “Sales are exceeding everything we first projected.

“We have seen the game selling as far as China.

“There is a real appetite for the Lakes. That’s where we got the idea, that if people can’t visit it, then they can at least play it.

“We are very hopeful for the future and we except good things to come in the run up to Christmas.”

Kay Thompson, Head of Retail at Winning Moves UK said: “The game was released in June during lockdown and proved the perfect ‘play at home, stay at home’ gift, as we sold out completely to retail within a few weeks.

“We thought when it was released that there would be enough games in the shops to cover this Christmas, but we have now had to go on a rapid second print-run. A third one is a possibility too. If demand is anything like it has been, then come Christmas Eve it may well be that the only games left will be those on Santa’s sleigh!

“As everyone knows the Lakes is an international tourist hot-spot and whilst this year it has been pretty much locked down to the world the Monopoly game dedicated to the Lakes has flown all over the globe.

“If you can’t visit it, then play it.”

The Westmorland Gazette:

The property sites, cards and tokens get a Lakes flavour.

Out go most of the classic tokens like the Scottie dog and battleship and in comes playing pieces which include a motorboat, a motor home, and an umbrella. The board also sees all of the multi-coloured classic property sites like Mayfair and Park Lane handed over to Lakes landmarks such as Windermere, Coniston, Aira Force and Scafell Pike.

The game is available online, and at WH Smith, Waterstones, The Works, Ryman, Hills Books, Toyland, Barney’s Newsbox, Hayes Garden World, Lakeland Toys and more.

The game is available for £25 to £29 with different retailers.
