Map shows Cumbria neighbourhoods with the best and worst Covid rates

Cumbria’s weekly rate of new coronavirus cases has risen by 42 per cent and comes after nearly a month of falling rates due to national lockdown and continued Tier 2 restrictions.

But within the county, the situation varies widely from neighbourhood to neighbourhood.

Some wards are recording infection rates of more than 300 cases per 100,000 people while others have so few cases that there is no rate data available.

For context, the current English average is 259.6 with all six Cumbria local authorities still possessing rates below that.

Eden now has the highest infection rate in the county after cases more than doubled from 78.9 to 200.9.

An interactive Government map formed using the latest coronavirus data shows Windermere South & Staveley currently has the hyper local highest infection rate in Cumbria.

A total of 26 cases were recorded in the seven days to December 14 giving it an infection rate of 314.8.

Arnside, Milnthorpe & Holme is the only other neighbourhood in the county with an infection rate above 300 while eight areas have rates higher than 200.

A total of 14 neighbourhoods recorded less than three cases of the virus across the week of testing.

This means its infection rate is not calculated due to being so low and to protect the identity of the few who may have caught the disease.

These include Sedbergh & Kirkby Lonsdale, Swarthmoor & Low Furness, Walney Island North, Barrow Central, Thornhill, Gosforth & Seascale, Mirehouse, Kells & Woodhouse, Egremont & Moor Row, Cleator Moor, Frizington & Ennerdale, Whitehaven Harbour & Corkickle, Hensingham, Hillcrest & Aikbank, Parton & Distington, Workington West, Hesket, Lazonby & Skelton and Maryport, Dearham & Crosby

Four others neighbourhoods now infection rates below the 50 rate mark.
