Tackle the famous Morecambe Bay Walk for Lancashire hospital charity

Walkers are being encouraged to take part in the legendary walk to help raise funds

Walkers are being invited to lace up their boots and cross Morecambe Bay this summer to help raise money for local hospital care.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity, ELHT&Me, has secured places on the famous Morecambe Bay Walk – an eight to 10-mile trek from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands – with funds going towards improving patient experience across the Trust’s hospitals and community health services.

The guided crossing will be led by the King’s Guide to the Sands, Michael Wilson, and a team of volunteers who safely escort participants across the shifting sands of the bay.

The historic walk dates back to 1548, and this year marks the seventh time the charity has taken part.

Head of Charity, Denise Barrett-Wilson said: “Each year we’re overwhelmed by the amount of support we receive and the number of willing walkers ready to take on this stunning challenge.

“Last year we saw a record 200 supporters sign up and raised just under £4,000 for ELHT&Me.

“This was truly incredible and will make a huge difference to our patients, so thank you to each and every one of you who took part or sponsored someone.”

The challenge is open to experienced walkers and beginners alike, and participants are even welcome to bring their dogs.

The Trust’s therapy dog Alfie is also expected to take part once again.

The walk will take place on Saturday, June 6, setting off at 9.30am from Arnside.

The route takes around four hours and covers a mix of sand, shingle, pebbles, rock and salt marsh, with the exact path depending on conditions on the day.
