The disabled dogs helped by Cumbrian charity that need a second chance at life

A woman who is on a mission to give disabled dogs a new home has helped more than 6,000 animals.

Victoria Bryceson, who lives in Carlisle, founded the charity Miracle’s Mission which houses an array of injured, disabled and neglected animals that have been rescued from the streets.

The charity, which is set on seven acres of land in Gainsborough, is looking for forever homes for dozens of dogs – could you be the person that could give them a loving and safe place to call their own?

Miracle’s Mission was founded in 2015 after a trip to Borneo made her aware of the severity of the street dog population. Victoria spent time working with shelters to neuter stray animals on the streets of Borneo in a bid to try and tackle the alarming rate at which puppies and kittens were being born on to the streets.

The charity is named after a puppy that was rescued from the streets at one week old. She was found abandoned in a remote area with her siblings and the puppies were all full of maggots, with ringworm and blood parasides. Victoria cared for Miracle and made she made a miraculous recovery, but unfortunately her siblings did not make it.

Victoria Bryceson Miracle’s Mission now has a seven acres of land in Gainsborough to house even more injured and neglected pooches.

There are several disabled dogs, currently being cared for by the charity, who are looking for foster carers or someone who will adopt them. We tell their stories below in the hope that a kind-hearted animal lover will give them a forever home.

Those looking for homes range from a sweet German Shepherd cross who has a tremor after being shot three times to a pooch that had to have her back legs amputated after being hit by a car.

While she can get around okay at home, Flo needs wheels for a walk and requires bladder expression about four times a day. The charity offers any potential fosterers or adopters full training and advice on this. Flo needs someone who is home most of the time and can give her the care and attention she so deserves.

Flo has some other health issues that are managed by medication. She has allergies that have caused skin issues and chronic ear infections. She currently has a monthly Cytopoint injection for her allergies.

She has also had frequent urinary tract infections. The vets feel this could be due to her bladder not being fully emptied or not emptied frequently enough.

She is a really happy dog who loves to run around on her wheels with her friends!

Flo could live with another friendly dog and she loves people, including children (over 5 years). She has also previously lived with cats.

Meet Eva who is a really sweet girl who lived on a farm for many years before being mistaken for a stray dog and shot three times. She was rescued and taken to the vets quickly where she was rehabilitated.

She has had seizures in the past but these have stopped and the vet no longer feels she requires medication for epilepsy. However, this is something that could reoccur in the future.

Eva has been left with a slight tremor. This does not affect her mobility at all. Eva is the friendliest girl who loves other dogs and people, including children (10 years+). She could also live with a dog savvy cat.

Eva has not been toilet trained, so this is something that her foster/adopter would need to be willing to teach her. She is vaccinated and microchipped, but Eva is not spayed as going under anaesthesia causes her to have seizures. Therefore, she needs a home where all male dogs are neutered and any potential home would need to be willing to sign a contract stating they will not breed from her.

Meet Laila she was found on the streets of Cairo unable to use her back legs. One of the legs was so badly damaged that it needed to be amputated. Shelter life is particularly difficult for dogs like Laila with disabilities, so the charity really would like for her to travel as soon as possible.

Laila is a sweet girl who gets around and will likely benefit from a set of wheels to aid her mobility on walks. Laila is good with other dogs and could live with a dog savvy cat. She would rather not live with children. She is incontinent and will require bladder expression 3/4 times a day. This is easy to do and we offer full training in this to all prospective foster and forever families.
