Two Cumbria roads closed after serious crashes

Two major roads in Cumbria are closed this evening after serious road traffic collisions.

The A7 in Longtown has been shut by police over the Longtown bridge.

The incident was announced by Cumbria Police on Twitter shortly after 5.30pm today (August 14).

A spokesperson said: “Cumbria Police are dealing a Serious RTC on the A7 going out of Longtown just over Longtown bridge.

“This road will be closed until further notice while we deal with the incident, please find alternative routes if travelling this way. More to follow in due course.”

Cumbria Roads Police have warned motorists to ‘please avoid the area for the next few hours’.

A separate serious RTC was then reported at 5.50pm on the A683 going out of Sedbergh at Straight Bridge.

Cumbria Police said: “This part of the road will be closed until further notice while we deal with the incident. If travelling this way find alternative routes. More updates will follow in due course.”
