The victim was found to have suffered six broken ribs and a lacerated spleen
A man has been jailed for attacking his partner while she slept and inflicting serious injuries on her.
Patrick Webster was convicted in September of grievous bodily harm with intent and witness intimidation following a trial at Carlisle Crown Court. The 69-year-old was in bed with his partner at a caravan site on the West Cumbrian coast on December, 20, 2025, the court heard.
She then woke in the early hours to him dragging her from the bed by her hair. Webster then began punching her to the back and body.
The victim was able to get away from Webster, despite being in incredible pain, and called an ambulance. At hospital, she was found to have suffered six broken ribs and a lacerated spleen.
He was then arrested but gave a ‘no comment’ interview. While on bail, he was told not to contact the victim but he made repeated, abusive phone calls to her, including threatening to kill her.
On one occasion, he said: “If you go to court and say I hit you, I’ll find you and you’re dead.” He denied the offences.
Detective Inspector Tom Windridge said: “This is a significant sentence which sees a violent man spending a considerable amount of time in prison.
“I would like to recognise the bravery of the survivor in this case, not only for coming forward to report the violence she suffered but also for standing firm in the face of severe attempts at intimidation.
“I hope that this result, and the courage of the survivor, serve as an inspiration to other survivors to come forward and report offences.”
Webster, of Fisher Street, Workington was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court to 11 years in prison on Tuesday (October 13).
